What is Scofflaw?

Section 702.003 of the Texas Transportation Code provides that the Denton County Tax Assessor may refuse to register a motor vehicle for failure to appear or pay a fine that involves the violation of a traffic law

What is the purpose of Scofflaw?

The purpose of the City of Lewisville Scofflaw is to bring people who have outstanding warrants into compliance by paying their traffic fines and fees.

How do I pay my outstanding fines and fees?

Use this link to Pay a fine. The hold is lifted within ten (10) business days of payment in full or completion of a program ordered by the Judge.

Can I set up a court date on a scoffed case?

Yes. However, unless you post a cash bond for the balance due, your vehicle registration hold will not be released until your case is disposed.

Can I enter into a payment plan?

Yes. However, your vehicle registration hold will not be released until all debt for traffic fines and fees are fully satisfied.

What if I refuse to pay the fines and fees?

In accordance with State Law, until all debt for traffic fines and fees are fully satisfied, the Denton County Tax Assessor’s Office will not renew your vehicle registration.
